Countdown to July 18, 2008
So, I just have to say - The Dark Knight looks awesome. Okay, that's a major understatement. It looks beyond amazing. The publicity campaign is one of the most brilliant I've ever seen. It's definitely working on me. I cannot wait to see this movie (hmm, is this a movie or a film? Maybe until I decide, I'll be like Borat and call it a "movie-film."). Who knew Heath Ledger had this in him? Unbelievable. Watch the trailer if you haven't yet - the link is impossibly long, but you can find it easily on YouTube or on Yahoo Movies. I'm so excited! I feel like a little kid at Christmas! How appropriate, considering it IS Christmas. Merry Christmas, everyone! But seriously, no offense Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but The Dark Knight is unquestionably my most anticipated film of 2008. And as much as it's being hyped, I don't think it will disappoint. In fact, I think it will surpass everyone's expectations. Here's a new poster to leave you thinking, or having nightmares, whatever...
I graduated in May 2008 from Columbia College Chicago. I have a BA in Film with a concentration in Critical Studies. Film is my passion. I'm a full-time film buff and, more specifically, a classic film fanatic. I know the term "classic" is used very loosely, but I mean American films produced in the studio system between roughly 1930 and 1960. I love everything about this era. My second passion is writing, especially about film. I love doing research, deconstructing and analyzing films, and writing very academically and critically about them. I ultimately want to be a film historian, but I am also interested in working in archiving or preserving films. I want to write analysis or reviews for a publication, as well as my own books. Writing is a beautiful, artistic process to me, and I always need to be writing about film in some capacity in order to thrive as a scholar, a cinéphile, and a person. Now that I'm done with school for the time being, I need an outlet for writing about film on a regular basis. So what you'll find on here will solely be about film, with maybe the occasional entry on something else. I hope you enjoy reading what I have to say as much as I enjoy writing it.
I encourage and welcome comments and feedback. Just to clarify, since I know it's a bit confusing when you get there, you can post a comment and just leave your name without putting a URL. Please let me know how you think I'm doing. Whether you agree or disagree, or if you just like my writing, I'd love to hear it. Thanks for reading!
"Oh, I once was a cliché." - a good-natured, playful Colin Farrell after Ricky Gervais introduced him to present at the Golden Globes by talking about drunken, hell-raising Irish stereotypes
